For it's time, this is an AMAZING film. However, you really must read the book. They play up Scarlett as the heroine in this movie, but if you scratch beneath the surface, you will find that Melanie Hamilton is the REAL heroine.

This is not only about the romance between Rhett & Scarlett. This is also about frienships, unrequited love, parental love, southern lifestyle in the late 1800's and also the civil war and mentalities about the war at the time.

It's about much more than a bitchy, beautiful, spoiled girl and her abuses of the scoundrel that loves her. I had flashbacks to this film when I had to evacuate my home during the Cali wildfires with my kids.

You have to see the whole part about Georgia burning to know what I mean. It's definitely one of the best movies of its' time.
