Review of Glorious 39 (2009) by Rhiannon M — 10 Apr 2010
Glorious 39 refers to the beautiful summer of 1939 before World War II broke out in Britain. The film revolves around an upper class family who become involved in a conspiracy about appeasing Hitler. The idea of the film was quite appealing to me and it started out very well, but soon it becomes farcical and predictable.
There is some excellent performances by Nighy and Garai but some of the other cast such as Temple are underused. This film will split people down the middle in terms of ratings. There are many good qualities to the film but not enough to give it a middle of the road rating.
