Review of Gimme Shelter (1970) by Emma B — 18 Jul 2010
Wanted to watch this for the songs- I'm a little partial to the music of the Rolling Stones.
I was not prepared for the sheer terror of parts of this film. It is harrowing!
The movie seems to contain actual footage. But, I'm shocked that the cameramen (and how many others) were standing by, letting it all happen before their eyes, without taking action- but who could help in this situation?!
Does this represent what the 60s were like? The audience contains people who are high, armed and dangerous, with the movie culminating in murder.
The film jumps from the scene of the crime, to the concert preparations, to the band watching the recording of the concert after the event. Mick Jagger's reaction is a bit of a shocker in itself (leaves room, mute), but what could he say?!
Hell's Angels ... tuttuttut.
