Review of Gilda (1946) by Loren J — 25 Feb 2008
This is absolutely my favorite movie. Rita Hayworth is so beautiful in this film and plays the character of Gilda with this wonderful, controlled vulnerability and strength. She and Glenn Ford have one of the most sizzling and complex relationships on screen that I've ever since.
The magic of the film is never telling us exactly what happened to Gilda (Hayworth) and Johnny (Ford) in their past. We've all been down roads like that before and it's what we are able to paint in our own minds to fill in the blanks that only make their sexual tension even more palatable.
This movie is the creme de la creme of film noir and an absolute pleasure to watch.
