Review of Get a Job (2016) by Thomas T — 06 Aug 2016
Here's the biggest disappointment when it comes to "Get a Job": there's a good movie in here somewhere.
I know very little about the production other than the fact that it was shot four years ago and is only now seeing the light of day. However, while watching this brief 78 minute movie (without credits), it does have the feeling of being hacked to death in the editing room. You don't get actors that are as good as Bryan Cranston and Anna Kendrick and only have them appear in about seven or eight scenes each. They barely have character arcs. And Kendrick is second-billed! And that's ultimately what winds up being the film's biggest sin. Deleted scenes or not (and I might be being kind, this could be just inept filmmaking/screenwriting) the film wastes a perfectly good cast.
So why two stars instead of something lower? The cast makes it watchable and it's good for a few laughs. The potential was there though for something much better.
