Review of Gangs of New York (2002) by Shahmeer H — 13 Jun 2011
A stunning, larger than life take on the prejudice, poverty and politics of 19th century New York. Scorsese uses the story of Amsterdam Vallon, son of a slain gang leader, as a vehicle for his depiciton and commentary on the impact that increased immigration had on a people who were already undergoing a massive race conflict of their own.
With beutiful art direction, as well as a wonderful script, Scorsese and company were able to shine an interesting, albeit harsh light on a topic that recieves limited attention.
