Review of Gandhi (1982) by Elliott F — 18 Dec 2010
Director Richard Attenborough and Academy Award-winning actor Ben Kingsley bring the larger-than-life story of Mahatmas Gandhi to the screen in a larger-than-life way. This three-hour epic beautifully and accurately depicts the events that transpired between Gandhi and his push for India's independence from British rule.
Attenborough and screenwriter John Briley set their ambitions high, as they attempted (and succeeded) to bring this incredible story to the big screen. Everything about it is grand, from the swarms of people and the man-power it took to shoot this film, to the lush cinematography, to its epic running length, to the Oscar-winning performance made by Kingsley.
This grand undertaking pays off in so many different ways, and it would be a shame to miss out on a true story of strength, honor, defiance, freedom, and the will of one person wanting to make a difference.
