Review of Funny Girl (1968) by Alan R — 02 Sep 2007
"Funny Girl" was Streisand's first film. And it got her the Best Actress Academy Award, tied with Katharine Hepburn for "Lion in Winter". This film is based on the life of comedian Fanny Brice.
It's a musical, and you either love it or hate it. This movie established many of the Streisand Classics we now know. "People", "Don't Rain On My Parade", "Second Hand Rose", "I'm The Greatest Star", "Funny Girl" and "My Man" which was actually a song Fanny Brice actually sang in her career.
I'm not too keen on Omar Sharif, but I suppose he did a decent job. This film is much better than its sequen "Funny Lady" which didn't have the magic "Funny Girl" had.
