Review of Fugitive Pieces (2008) by James H — 23 Nov 2008
This was about what I would have expected of an attempt to transfer onto film the sublime poetry of the likes of the wondrous novel by Anne Michaels. The film doesn't surprise and somehow seem to almost surpass the medium as with the incredible transformation of Ondantje's English Patient onto film, but that was a once in a generation accomplishment.
This is well worth seeing - the acting a touch off I felt at times, yet at the same time that imparted upon the film something of an innocently real and authentic feel if one is inclined to be generous.
