Review of Fugitive Pieces (2008) by Michael M — 05 Apr 2010
The story follows the survival of a young boy to adulthood trying to find the missing pieces of a life lived with images of dead family members in his mind. While promoted as a Holocaust film, it is far more than that standard fare.
This film is accessible, letting us appreciate a life's journey in every detail. When the main character discovers his time was spent chasing ghosts and not dreams, he is redeemed and set free, giving us pause about our own journeys.
This is a hopeful film about the victims of all wars, from Palestine to Bosnia and Chechnya. Based on a novel, the screenplay unfolds with a deft touch, giving us equal measures of sensuality, joy, tears and hope.
