Great, powerful movie. The critics' scores are ridiculous. It seems like they were afraid it could be classified as a dreaded "white savior movie" (it isn't) and that they'd get attacked on twitter by #oscarssowhite because the director is white and the lead actor is white.

Superb performances. It's a mournful movie and will certainly appeal to history buffs and political junkies. Matthew McConaughey gives probably his best performance, Gugu Mbatha-Raw is wonderful as his wife and Mahershala Ali should get an Oscar (unless the Academy is as scared as the critics apparently were of being politically incorrect by endorsing a movie with a white leading man and many black actors (but in supporting roles).
