Review of Fox and His Friends (1975) by Enrico C — 26 Dec 2008
Probably the best Fassbinder piece, and the most political one to. It tells the story of Franz Biberkopf (like the main charachter in Doblin's Berlin Alexanderplatz), who wins the lottery and passes from his working class environment to a highly sophisticated life together with is new boyfriend, from the upper class.
The story is conducted with a sort of brechtian touch, so that is possible to follow the events in a detached way and read the whole plot as a metaphor of the oppressed condition. A tragedy with a grime humour, cruel and cold as mèlo by Sirk.
Perfect.
