Review of Flying Down to Rio (1933) by Brian H — 07 Dec 2008
There are really only two reasons to watch this movie: the exciting first pairing of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers AND the final dance sequence featuring dancers on a high flying plane. Other than that, the film's plot is non-existent, the musical numbers (besides that final sequence) are rather boring (even the over-hyped Carioca), and the film is definitely dated.
Fred and Ginger are fun to watch and its clear why they became stars. I wish I could say the same for the romantic leads, Dolores Del Rio and Gene Raymond. They are both rather bland and I didn't believe their love triangle for a second.
There are moments that are worth it, but overall there are much better old musicals to check out.
