Review of Fear of Fear (1975) by Will J — 12 Nov 2008
There are few films that capture the superficiality of love, it's desires, and societies superficiality without coming off as vengeful, overly melodramatic, or preachy. I am proud to announce this is a film that does not resort to the above trappings. Fassbinder weaves a web of love and disgust without shying away from the evil and selfishness in all of us. This is a film that questions your beliefs on what love truly is and why we fall in love, and god I cannot thank Fassbinder enough for presenting such a story to us in a way that is not as tacky as hell.
P.S. Way better than Magnificent Obsession, which this is based on.
