Review of Fateful Findings (2013) by Altered E — 23 Sep 2016
Neil Breen's third surrealist-cyberpunk-thriller film builds on the motifs and themes laid out in his first two movies. This turn from the writer/director/editor/actor/caterer has Breen reuniting with a childhood love after he miraculously survives a car accident.
Supernatural themes are more of a sideshow to the main plot (reminiscent of Magic Realist works like "100 Years of Solitude"), which comes to focus on the love triangle between Breen, his current wife, and his long-lost sweetheart (and the neighbor's daughter, briefly).
Multiple side-plots defy the trend of boring the audience, instead becoming welcome diversions. As with all of his films, "Fateful Findings" provides a unique window into the quixotic mind of its single creator, and for the curious, there's much to psychoanalyze.
I am glad this movie exists, and I eagerly await "Pass Thru," Breen's next film.
