Review of Exodus (1960) by Simon T — 12 Jul 2018
Otto Preminger was clearly having an off-day when he cast blond blue-eyed Paul Newman as the Jewish renegade leading a horde of refugees into Palestine at the birth of Israel. Incoherent, endless, turgidly written, directed and acted - this is at times exasperating cinema.
Sal Mineo is the only performer to emerge with credit. Extraordinary to realise this was made in the same year as Psycho and shares the same screenwriter as Spartacus (Dalton Trumbo).
