Review of Emelie (2016) by Stephen L — 08 Mar 2016
Emelie is a terrific film by director Michael Thelin. SPOILERS to follow... The film grabs your attention from the very first frame. Rather than settling for jump scares, Emilie is a slow burner that teases your imagination throughout.
Bolstered by a strong performance from Sarah Bolger, Emelie delights as a multi-layered main character. While the story was compelling, Michael Thelin's direction was perhaps the biggest highlight.
He expertly grips the audience's attention without being too melodramatic or on the nose as many films in the genre tend to be. Overall, Emelie is a thrilling film that makes a poignant statement about putting so much trust in people we hardly know.
