Review of Elite Squad (2007) by Sepp V — 05 Jan 2009
Rio de Janeiro's favelas are shown as being controlled by drug lords and where the police only enter to collect pay-offs in this ultra-gritty story of the lower depth's of Brazil's best-known city.
Two childhood friends join the military police but discover rampant corruption and incompetence. They then join an elite squad known as BOPE, reputed to not be corrupt, to fight the drug lords. An extraordinary film in the Tradition of Cidade de Deus (City of God).
