Review of Eden Lake (2008) by André G — 20 Feb 2010
Probably the genre's masterpiece in the past decade or so (the other 2 films I can recall that are close to that mark are ironically British too - The Descent and 28 Days Later), and certainly one of the best directorial debuts in any genre, Eden Lake is visceral, scary, and truly unforgettable. This time, the monsters are quite real.
It might not be the most "fun" time you'll ever have in a movie, but for those who can stand gritty, nasty violence, this is one hell of a ride. And a true horror, that says more about human nature (youth's education, parent control, bullying, peer pressure, survival instincts, adult responsability... ) than the last Von Trier film.
