Review of Downtown '81 (2001) by Anonymous User — 29 Nov 2009
The rest of the movie was okay, but I'd rather talk about DNA first.
They're one of my favorite No Wave bands ever, and it's the only performance that was captured for this film that could be deemed above average. They play "Blonde Redhead" and I like it so much I would recommend seeing this on Netflix and skipping to that part. Or Youtube it, whatever. James Chance's band is pretty cool, too.
I don't really care about the cameos, but this is a pretty endearing and cheeky portrait of a more hip and gritty area of New York City in the 1980's. It suffers from being kinda hazy and boring though, even for a movie that's only over an hour long. But then don't forget there's ARTO LINDSAY ARTO LINDSAY.
