Review of Downloading Nancy (2008) by Twinzzzz M — 19 Jun 2009
This one is tough. This one is messy. But it is made by a group of people of such courage and passion that is rarely seen today. Calling it uncompromising would be an understatment. Radical? Closer; this is the one which will take everything from you - if you let it - or won't give you anything, leaving you feeling that you wasted 100 minutes of your time.
"Downloading Nancy" transcends the plot limitations of traditional three-act storytelling, focusing solely on showing a series of extreme states of emotions that, in the end, don't need unnecessary explanation... You won't forget Maria Bello and Jason Patric for a long time after seeing this. And for sure the scene in which they are kissing - if cinema can sometimes reach the level of beauty of sheer poetry, this is that kind of a moment.
A triumph of truthfulness over the form.
