Review of Down Terrace (2010) by Jj M — 06 Feb 2014
Quite dark. Probably for the sake of being dark, which is unlike Shane Meadows efforts. The lack of reality at critical moments in contrast to the quite disturbing serious moments are something that doesn't sit too easy in the film.
I suppose you have to commend a director who has the ability to do this, particularly someone making his first feature film. But sometimes a purpose overrides a responsibility and I think Wheatley overreaches here.
Sightseers on the other hand is much more subtle and joyous (again, in a very dark way!). I agree with Colm, the Belfast guy was simply hillarious and the most memorable thing about this.
