Review of Double Indemnity (1973) by Jennifer S — 22 May 2009
Enormously entertaining film noir classic about an insurance salesman and a blonde femme fatale who conspire to kill said femme's husband--after taking out a huge accident insurance policy on him with a "double indemnity" clause which would guarantee twice as much insurance money for certain, bizarre accidents.
Well, you can probably guess that they don't get away with it in the end. Filled with lines like "How could I have known that murder could sometimes smell like honeysuckle?", Double Indemnity is old school in the best possible way--it recalls a time when men were men, and women carried guns in their purses.
