Review of Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988) by Emily B — 15 Jan 2009
Maybe not the best Saturday night flick... but if you set aside the need to be entertained you can find so much merit and so much feeling in this film. The sense of memory and how it comes back to us in its sharp and/or dreamlike ways is beautifully camptured in painterly expression.
The subject of escapism is discussed; and the film manages to show the security and devilishness in escape. Enjoyable, but it makes you work for it.
