Review of Diamonds Are Forever (1971) by Tom G — 01 Dec 2008
I find a lot of people seem to believe Connery was too old for this Bond, however this movie was one of the first Bond flicks I was introduced to. I guess I just have an appreciation of this as Connery seems to have matured into Bond, comfortable with the role.
The plot is of course slightly abscure, but like all Bonds you embrace the oddities immediately and focus on the punchy one-liners, the clever gadgets and the ever-amazing Bond cliches. Shirley Bassey's opening number still brings a smile to my face after almost 10 years since I first saw this.
Personally I think this was an excellent way for Connery to sign off as Bond.
