Review of Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008) by Kevin S — 05 Jan 2009
There isn't really a way to say anything about this film. It presents an event that shakes and shatters the lives of many, and shows a portrait of the legacy one man leaves behind. The maker of this film sets out with pure intentions of showing a child who his father was.
Obviously there can be no substitute for his actual dad, but seeing so many people who cared about him speak about him in such a loving way lets you get what you can only imagine is a very small glimpse of what it would have been like to have the pleasure of meeting this man.
Although his son will never meet him in person, and neither will we, this devastatingly poignant documentary gives us the privilege of being introduced to this man and those connected to him, who we grow to care about very much.
