Review of Dave (1993) by Stephen M — 29 Mar 2008
This modern day telling of The Prisoner of Zenda is one of the best political movies I've seen - and I am aware that there are REAL political movies that deal with things the way they ARE. That's why I love this movie. It shows the way things SHOULD be.
The title character isn't a politician. When he is asked to stand in for the president and ends up running the country, he doesn't run it like a president -- he runs it like a man. Fortunately, he's a good man and he wants to be a good president - even knowing that he isn't the president, just a stand in.
The supporting characters are wonderfully brought to life by some of the business' best actors, most notably Miss Sigourney Weaver, turning in an understated and likeable performance -- for my money, one of her best.
Kevin Kline is just a God. Anyone else agree with me?
I love this movie, I love Dave and I nominate him for REAL president of the REAL United States of America.
