Review of Dark Waters (1993) by Lee M — 02 Oct 2008
One real atomospheric movie. Surreal, unsettling soundtrack throughout, full of dread and a grim ending. Lovecraft's The Shadow Over Innsmouth seems like a inspiration for this. Sometimes family roots should remain unanswered...
The extra features are great. The short films give an indication of the director's emerging themes. Carncula is particulary stylish, disturbing and telling since there's almost no dialogue and it's all dark settings.
Overall, a good film that should have been a greater initial release, considering what passed for horror films at the time. Baino is beside the likes of del Toro, Barker and such in originality.
