Review of Dark Blue World (2001) by Jessica K — 15 Sep 2007
Before seeing this film, I only knew a little of the czech-british RAF co-op, and of course after seeing this I rushed to the bookshelves and encyclopedias. Considering the trouble taken to make such a wonderful and mature film about this subject, it definately deserves some stars.
The train scene alone was the most expensive in the history of czech film, and that is only a mere few seconds of footage... Jan Sverák has proved again how resourceful he is making quite a lovely lot out of so few.
It handled the truth and history maturely, and carried both well loved elements of czech and british film themes. With the salt and sugar of life, fate and conflict, this definately deserves it's stars.
