Review of Curse of Chucky (2013) by Fallon O — 28 Jun 2016
The homage to old fashioned and Italian horror I was craving. Great to see Chucky return to his horror roots. While the doll is the worst he's ever looked, the movie had a budget of $5 million which gives him a pass.
The acting is really tight all around. Brad Dourif even gets to shine for a scene dressed as Tommy Wiseau. His daughter, Fiona, though absolutely knocks it out of the park. A straight horror film that any newcomer can enjoy - and yet all the fan service is relegated to the last few scenes of the film.
It can be dismissed by those who haven't seen the last five movies... But those who are Chucky fans will get an added bonus. Can't remember the last time I enjoyed a direct to video movie as much as this.
Don Mancini, despite having a severely limited budget, used his passion and wits to deliver a truly quality horror movie that puts to shame pretty much all the big budget horror movies out today.
