Review of Cowards Bend the Knee (2003) by X. T — 31 May 2008
Maddin is simply one the most inventive directors anywhere. He's David Lynch with a more pronounced sense of humor. Five years before Zohan, Maddin gives us a hockey-player turned hairstylist turned murderer.
Throw in vengeance, lust, family, abortions, homoeroticism, ghosts, and a wax museum. It's a surreal Greek tragedy in Maddin's black-and-white, silent dream world, from a bygone era that never existed.
