Review of Cover (2007) by Chris W — 11 Jun 2008
Black independent cinema...why must you be so astoundingly...okay? I'll have to admit this film is way better than a lot of similar fair I've seen (the Trois trilogy, G, and Asunder come to mind) and Leon turns out (no pun intended) a fantastic performance here. Still, I wish the film hadn't been so heavy handed in dealing with the subject matter. Could that woman not have known her husband's male friend was gay after he leans into her ear and whispers "Welcome to Philly...the city of brotherly looovveee?".
Still this is an intelligent and mature film that is sure to make that girl you're dating see you as someone who "cares about the issues" if you show it to her. Catch it if you are still yet to hear the down low issue argued from every angle possible.
