Review of Control Room (2004) by Charley K — 15 Jan 2008
I found this to be a real eye-opener. Michael Moore's films, even if I happen to agree with him have a kind of hollow ring to them because of the ways in which he twists his material around for dramatic and documentary effect.
"Control Room" had a much quieter and calmer feel to it, which made its impact much more effective and, frankly, pleasant to watch. I felt like I learned a lot from this movie, and it confirmed my suspicions that the impressions we are given of most middle-easterners are slanted quite a bit by much of the US media.
Particularly effective is the story of Josh Rushing, the US Marine press officer whose own opinions of what he was reporting on change dramatically during his time covering the Iraq war.
