I actually like this director (Two-Lane Blacktop is the bee's knees) and I 'get' what he's up to in this film. It's a sports film about obsession, male ego, alienation, etc...right, cool.
Except...uh...well, maybe it was the copy I watched? It was some kind of low rent public domain thing with 'Mad Dog Morgan' on the disc. Yes, that's it...a director I admire can't have made a bad film.
..it was the copy...the copy...la la la la la.
