Review of Clownhouse (1990) by Jeff B — 09 Aug 2009
This was actually a very good horror/slasher film. A kid is scared of clowns, so of course, he and his two brothers go to a carnival, see clowns, and the kid gets even more scared. But after the carnival, three escaped lunatics kill the clowns, steal their costumes, then manage to find the kid. Though the kills aren't that great, it does a great job of making the clowns look scary, and it's got a lot of good suspense and thrills in it. And it's also Sam Rockwell's debut playing the oldest brother.
And of course, I have to bring up the backstory of this film. The main character (who was like 14 or something) claimed to have been molested by the director, Victor Salva, so while watching the film I couldn't help but laugh that the film opens with all of the brothers in their underwear and even having a shot of the main character's ass. Sick director.
