Review of City of Life and Death (2009) by Matt L — 21 Nov 2011
In time it will be recognized or should be recognized as one of the greatest war films ever made. It's just too bad that it didn't get the exposure in the U.S. as it did the rest of the world. There's no other film I can remember that captures the realism of war like this one.
Le Chuan is a director I will be looking out for for sure. And if anyone is lucky enough to check out the import Blu-Ray check out the documentary on the making of the film. It's almost as good as the film itself.
Just like the characters in the movie itself the director had to scratch, claw, and beg just to survive.
