Review of Christine (1983) by Eytan D — 15 Dec 2012
When the mind behind "Halloween" and the writer of "The Shining" come together, you know you're in for a sucker-punch of a horror film. "Christine" is one of the best Stephen King adaptations ever filmed and one of John Carpenter's best movies.
It accurately portrays high school troubles in the 1980's and it is able to make a goofy idea something memorably frightening. The effects are spectacular, and the psychological horror the characters feel from Arnie's behavioral transformation is utterly believable, thanks to the fantastic performance of Keith Gordon as Arnie.
Carpenter's signature touch is evident through mood, suspense, and as always, nightmarish music. "Christine" is faithful to the book but works just as well as a movie. You'll never look at vintage cars the same way again.
