Not my favorite of his films, I would recommend Boys of Fengkuei, Good Men Good Women, or City of Sadness first. But Hou Hsiao-hsien's one of my favorite directors, so this is still ranks up there.
I really appreciate films in this style that force you to slow down your mind and concentrate on the minutia of everyday life and emotion.
