Review of Boyhood (2014) by Michaeldn — 10 Mar 2015
Everybody who dislikes this movie seems to feel as if they need to make an excuse as to why it is so well received as if it is impossible that somebody disagrees with their opinion. I'm curious what the people who claim that the reviews are solely based on the 12 years concept think about Linklater's Before series.
Those movies were not filmed over 12 years but are written very similarly to Boyhood and were extremely well received. The truth is that the 12 years adds a real and compelling vibe to an already well written movie.
This movie is about how life is made up of little, meaningless moments that go by before we even know it. Every scene is so carefully made, as to capture every detail as realistically and compellingly as possible.
The movie is simultaneously beautifully nostalgic, and utterly depressing. I've watched it three times and I can't wait to watch it again.
