Review of Box of Moonlight (1996) by Critic M — 16 Jan 2014
"Box of Moonlight" is an unusual story of a middle aged electrical engineer, Al (Turturro), having somewhat of a midlife crisis. He gets let off early from a job where he is an outcast, overseeing the construction of a windshield wiper factory, but ops to stay in the rural town after meeting a young mountain man named Kid (Rockwell).
The slightly mystical, Huckleberry Finn style, life of leisure begins to rub off on Al and his inhibitions slowly start to fade. "Box of Moonlight" has a lot going for it, mainly the unbeatable duo of John Turturro and Sam Rockwell. The film is very unique, slightly weird and a lot of fun to watch. The film's message is an important one, the simplest things in life can solve even the most difficult struggles.
