Review of Blue Spring (2001) by Stefani C — 14 Nov 2007
The term 'blue spring' is a mistraslation of the two kajni which mean 'adolescence' together apprarently. That would make sense. Gang warfare doninates this boys high school where most of the boys are not expected to finish.
When Kujo becomes the reluctant 'boss' after winning the clapping game he further demonstrates his ability to stand out by dismissing the gang mentality. The film looks at a few characters who are struggling to find a way and a purpose.
The film has quite a bit of violence, and an element of cool. However, it is also marked with subtle symolism, such as a dying boy burying caterpillars, and the boys being tought by the gardener that they must nurture the tulips they have help plant.
..Kujo's flower might blossom after all...
