Review of Blood Freak (1972) by Kayla K — 19 Jun 2008
There are countless films that have tried to convey the living heart of the Christian Mystery. This is the only one to truly succeed. So if you have ever wondered exactly WHAT THE HELL they go on about so sweatily under those revival tents, it is this: if'n you does drugs, the Baby Jesus'll make you dream you done got a turkey head.
Blood Freak also includes more 1970s personal grease, face ooze, and bad moustache whiff than any handful of cinema verite treasures. Never before has the screen been filled with so many ... entities who truly did not know how to read a script, let alone act convincingly (and this, friends, would be the ne plus ultra of that until the 8 years of the George W. Bush presidency, when a more incompetent actor than Steve Hawkes was finally discovered and made leader of a once-mighty nation).
This film cannot be rated. It can only be experienced or, more pertinently, survived.
