Review of Blood Diamond (2006) by Brett H — 07 Feb 2012
Fabulous, as excpected with Di Caprio stepping away from Scorsesse for the first time in a couple of films. Concreting my admiration for Di Caprio as still to this day one the most fabulous and underrated actors of all time, Leonardo's character of Danny Archer is nailed to perfection. His accent and arrogance are spot on and typical of an Afrikaneers(Boers, Rhodesians, White Afrcians) personality, and obvious to anyone who has known, worked or lived amongst them( no pun or slur intended, considering the history and intensity of the lives, any race would display the same emotions).
Blood Diamond is not as easy to watch as 'Lord of War' in the form of violence and brutality(and that's saying alot), but is whole-heartly honest, with an unapolegtic and saddly honest view of Africa and the world outside it. The key phrase in this film sums it immensely: TIA, This is Africa.
