Review of Blood and Black Lace (1964) by Sean C — 02 Apr 2008
This is one of the most important horror movies ever made. It showed what you could do with colour in the genre. It is also the first full on giallo movie. Some may say the The Girl Who Knew Too Much, also by Mario Bava, as the first giallo, which could be argued, but this movie, with its lush colours, seedy backgrounds, and almost erotic murders, really sets the standard.
You could also say that "The Telephone" from Mario bava anthology film Black Sabbath is the first giallo. That film is also my personal favourite. This film also has the typical giallo landscape of people working for a fashion agency.
Something that would inspire later giallo filmmakers.
