Review of Blind Mountain (2007) by Gao Z — 19 Sep 2008
An interesting story though, it is less morally ambiguous, and thus, less penetrating than Yang's previous Blind Shaft. The whole story revolves around the theme of a pathetic woman kinapped by a group of salvage rural people tries all means to escape, between the innocent and the corrupted.
How about the woman is finally unwilling to leave because of her child? How about more sympathetic characterization of these rural people? Both ways will enhance the textual richness and humanitarian complicatedness to the film.
