Review of Black Rain (1989) by Lisa W — 21 Jan 2008
This film is ace. It works on a number of levels. Michael Douglas obviously has a past and he meets Steven Spielberg's wife, who is working as a hostess. She doesn't care as he rides bikes without helmets.
He doesn't care that she is already too old to be a decent hostess unless she starts working at a place that costs 100 yen a drink and is frequented by pensioners with warped backs. The best thing about this film is the fact that on walking back to their hotel from Shinsaibashi they go via the Hanshin department store in Umeda.
That's a good hour to walk. Unless they got lost.
