Before Clint as director really blew me away with "A Perfect World", I stumbled across this gem on cable in the late 80's. I knew very little about Charlie Parker but was sucked into this lengthy film almost immediately.
I think this film marks when Eastwood really started to hit his stride as a director. There were misses after this, sure, but I think this was a breakthrough and clearly a labor of love.
