Review of Best Worst Movie (2009) by Adam C — 27 Nov 2010
Best Worst Movie is a deceptive little film. It looks like just a fan film about the incredibly strange Troll 2, but instead has much more to offer then a making of documentary would. Sure the film give some interesting insight to how the film was made but the film offers more.
The real strength of the film is the examination of the interesting characters who made the film. All these characters are fascinating and ranges from weird to hilarious to down right sad. The most interesting of the subjects is the cheerful George Hardy.
From the first scene on in the film he is terrific to watch how his involvement in a b-movie is still affecting him twenty years later. On another level the film is also a great love letter to the film in a weird way.
The film is a great look at film fandom and what really constitutes an enjoyable film. Even if you've never seen Troll 2 this is still a film worth seeing. But if you have seen Troll 2, Best Worst Movie works as a great companion piece.
