Review of Benny's Video (1992) by Sara - — 18 Nov 2009
Right off the bat, Haneke gives you the goods. The opening scene sets a tone of careless destruction on part of the main character and the acts he perpetrates on those around him. I'm always a little wary with Haneke, though, in that I'm always thinking that I'm missing something that he's trying to express about the characters and the story.
Nevertheless, you know something is always around the corner that will turn a situation on its head. The man is not without intelligence to spare, and that shows. It shows in the actors, and it shows in how they're directed.
I can't give it a 2nd watch, though. Funny Games is the best of what I've seen so far of his.
