Review of Begotten (1991) by Jeff D — 19 May 2011
A somewhat pretentious artsy film that won't make a lot of sense to you unless you're familiar with pagan symbolism. There's no dialogs, no music, just the sound of crickets. You're probably wondering, "Why the fuck should I watch this?" Well, the movie opens with God committing suicide by gutting himself with a razor blade while shitting himself. If you're still not convinced that this movie is badass, necrophiliac Mother Earth shows up and gets impregnated by God, she then gives birth to adult Jesus, who looks like an inbred mutant from The Hills Have Eyes, and then giant Jawas show up and shit gets real.
It's worth seeing so you can tell you friends you've watched a movie where God disembowels himself and Jesus and Mother Nature get raped, tortured and dismembered by Jawas.
E. Elias Merhige also directed Shadow of the Vampire, another great film that you should watch.
